SOIL CONSERVATION- example

The diagram above shows soil conservation works for a 161ha property that was badly eroded. The contour lines are contour banks constructed to control runoff and trap transported water and soil.

The hatched laneways are “flumes”, a grassed area that leads catchment runoffs into an appropriate dam. The works also incorporated the construction of 8-9 dams.

The roman numeral within circles are land classifications according to the Department of Primary Industry's classification system.
