REVIVALS
– ARCHITECTURE
The
use of past elements of architecture or houses in houses built at a
later period. Particularly pertinent in Australia as many immigrants
felt nostalgic to their homeland. From the mid 1800s Australian
architecture were influenced by the following revivals:
- Greek
- Gothic
- Italian Renaissance.
Towards
the end of the 1800s:
- Scottish Baronial
- Queen Anne
- Elizabethan.
In
the 1900s an American revival took place on the basis that American
houses were more suitable for the Australian climate:
- Spanish (Hollywood)
- Mediterranean
