RETIREMENT VILLAGES CODE OF PRACTICE


The Code of Practice is a law created under the Fair Trading Acts which is legally binding on all village operators, their employees and residents of retirement villages. The Code was developed to promote fair dealings in the retirement villages marketplace and in response to industry and consumer concern about the way that sore villages have operated n the past.


The Code should assist managers and residents of retirement villages make fair, informed and democratic decisions about what is best for their particular village community. It also sets out particular rights and responsibilities of managers and village residents in their dealings with each other. The Code commenced on 3 November 1999 and was developed in consultation with representatives from retirement village operators, industry, residents and consumers.


The Director of Fair Trading administers the Code.
