RECEIPT FOR PAYMENT OF RENT


A lessor has an obligation to provide a receipt to tenants when the rent is paid. If the rent is paid:

• directly into a bank account-the lessor is not required to give the tenant a receipt.
• in person-a receipt must be given at that time.
• by another method-the receipt should be provided or sent by post within 7 days.

A receipt for rent or bond should include:

• the date of payment
• the period for which the payment was made
• which property the payment was made for
• whether the payment was for bond or rent.
