PRIMARY TRADE AREA (PTA)

The primary trade area is that area which attracts the "hard core" shoppers. They are the potential shoppers within walking distance or 5-10 minutes driving time of the centre. These are the "safest" customers for the shopping centre as they will not easily be diverted away from the subject centre as it is the most convenient. This is the "rabbit" customer mentioned in Whiteman Smith case.
