PASTURE IMPROVEMENT IN NSW

SOUTHERN NSW

In southern NSW typical sown pasture combinations are rye grass and sub clover. Because summer rainfall is unpredictable no summer growing pastures are sown as cattle will grow and fatten on dry sub clover remaining from the previous spring.

NORTHERN NSW

In the north of NSW sub clover is not a good proposition. Burr medic is a volunteer plant which like clover provides protein for cattle and nitrogen for the soil. Kikuyu makes an excellent summer pasture in the higher rainfall areas. See diagrams below:
