MATERIALS - BUILDING
WALLS
The
most common wall materials in ascending order of value with useful
fieldbook codes are as follows:
- wood
(w) - weatherboard (wb)
- asbestos
cement (ac)
- concrete
(c)
- "weathertex"
- brick
veneer (bv)
- stone/freestone
(s)
- block
(bl)
- bluestone
(bs)
- brick
(b)
- brick
with cement rendering (bc).
Alternatively,
a number code used by the South Australian Valuer General is as
follows:
- brick
(1)
- iron
(2)
- rendered
(3)
- asbestos/weatherboard/
log (4)
- freestone/stone
(5)
- bluestone
(6)
- basket/range
(7)
- block
(8)
- transportable/other
(9).
ROOF
The
most common roof materials in ascending order of value are:
- corrugated
steel (cs) (do not use "iron")
- corrugated
asbestos cement (cac)
- cliplock
(cl)
- cement
tile (ct)
- colorbond
(cb)
- terra
cotta tile (tct)
In
some areas colorbond is as expensive as cement tile. An alternative
number code used by the South Australian Valuer General is as
follows:
- tiled
(1)
- galvanized
steel (2)
- corrugated
asbestos (3)
- steel
deck (4)
- imitation
tile (5)
- slate
(6)
- asbestos
shingles (7)
- other
(8).
The
materials used in the house can be described using the above codes.
For example, ac/ct means a house with asbestos cement walls and a
cement tile roof. Trade names such as 'fibro" should be avoided
whenever possible. Corrugated steel or corrugated metal (cm) is used instead of "corrugated
iron" as the material is steel and not iron.
