LICENCE
A
right to enter and occupy the premises but not exclusive
occupation of the premises by the occupier. It is a personal
right not transferable and can be revoked at any time. For example, a
boarder or where A tells B that B can take a shortcut over A's land.
Compare with a lease.
The
licence does not create an interest in the land but rather a personal
contract between the landlord, and licensee. Where a room is let and
some service is provided to that room such as cleaning, the occupancy
is that of a licence. For example, a boarding house.
