code based assessment

The concept recognises that much housing development and improvements are relatively routine and /or minor. Codifying those housing types means that developers and builders can tick off their proposed plan against a checklist raher than sending it through the time consuming and expensive process of local coucils and state governments.

Private certifiers still are required for final approval and more complex developments will still need local and state approvals. It workds best for mass produced products such as fencing, an outbuilding, detached houses or a dual occupancy unit.
